Trying out the sweetheart neckline! :D

Such a long overdue post!

Due to the covid lockdown last year, I had definitely made much more use of my sewing machine than I ever did in the past few years that I had owned it, and even ended up purchasing a (better replacement) secondhand bernina that was manufactured even before my own existence! I also never imagined that I would have been trying to sew clothes, but sew I did, thanks to the countless youtubers who make the effort to film and share their tutorials online! :D

Many of the sewing youtubers I follow have made their own wedding dress videos, and I started to wonder if it could be in the cards for me to make my own wedding dress for when it was my turn!

As I started to explore and research about wedding gowns and silhouettes, I decided to practise drafting patterns for the sweetheart neckline! It took lots of research, a few measurements, but multiple attempts at drafting the pattern for getting the right amount of curve for my small bust! :O

The first try was a blue gingham dress made with a lined bodice and (I think was) a 3/4 circle skirt! :) Loved it, and I think it is one of the first handmade dresses that I have worn out numerous times!

Mistakes to not repeat though, include

- to account for hemming and errors so that the dress doesn't end up too short

- insert a longer zipper so that there is more allowance!

With this initial success, I decided to sew a white dress with a train for my engagement shoot! However, I ended up not wearing this dress because the neckline didn't turn out quite as nice as the first one did! ): Possibly because of the thicker fabric used and the width of the straps I had sewn! I think this was again, made with a 3/4 circle skirt!

Notes

- To hem the curved hem, staystitch the curved edge of the circle skirt and fold it, press, and them sew.
