Babydoll dress! :D

Had this beautiful glittery fabric that I got from The Fabric Warehouse in Mt Eden last year, as an option for my dress for our engagement shoot. Didn't use it then, and as it is pretty heavyweight, I was definitely wondering and considering what garment to make from it. I think it read that it was some kind of linen from Italy, but it is definitely not the lighter linen that I am used to!

As it is on the thicker/heavier side, I didn't want to make a crazily gathered or tiered dress and decided that it had to be on the simpler side, like a shift dress or babydoll dress.

Ended up using two of my existing dresses for reference to trace the bodice. My dresses were bought online from SHEIN and are a tad too big, so I traced the bodice by following the dress to include the seam allowance that I needed.

Sleeves are one of the parts that I am not too confident with, but I briefly followed the shape of the sleeve that Elizabeth Bryson outlined in her video for a lace shift dress. I also made sure that the length of the curve was the same as the length for the armhole that I had cut.

Note to myself next time

- Probably would be easier to trace the pieces for facing before sewing the shoulder seams

- Sew the sleeve to armhole BEFORE sewing up the underarm and side seams

(I had to unpick the side seams and it wasn't easy, and I left one side with a bulky underarm seam because it was too tricky to unpick them!)

The dress was removable but pretty tricky to get off my body, so I decided that I needed an opening of some sort to make it easier, so after researching, I realised that I was making almost the same dress as Rosery Apparel. She talked about the keyhole opening and I went to find more details and sewguide was really useful! :D

Finally got to take a photo after wearing it at work for the preschool's photo-taking session! :D Pardon the exhaustion and wrinkles on the dress~
