Quilted cutting mats' holder!

Had to figure out a way to store my cutting mats in a space-saving way and after lots of research, I got inspiration from the idea of fold-up magazine racks.

Decided to use up the scrap fabrics that I had from previous projects, and researched up on quilting! Quilt-as-you-go seemed pretty cool, and I tried that, but made a mistake from the get-go by not starting in the middle, and also not making sure that the lengths were the same!

Ended up with a dilemma of how to carry on stitching, but after a good night's sleep... EUREKA! :D

Cut up my big batting piece into three, and completed each piece at a time before joining them back up! I then had the backing piece and started on the quilting lines... Unfortunately, I forgot to change my presser foot to the walking foot, and the layers did not feed through evenly and they all puckered! ):

By then, I was too tired and dispirited; I forgot to take photos.

The next day... Cut up and prepared four straps to attach to the main piece. I used bias binding which took me a whole long night and lots of mitred corners which wore me out. After all that, I realised I could have just done it right-sides together and turned them right way out, just like normal straps ): Silly me!

After screwing some hook screws to the bottom of our desk frame, I attached some grommets to the straps and whoots whoots! :D My cutting mats' holder and DIY tailor's ham all hung up! :D
