So so so happy with my recent e-reader purchase! :D Love how I can so easily borrow books now from the Overdrive system for Auckland libraries and read in the spa as it is waterproof woohooo!! XD

Needless to say, the first sewing project of the year was an e-reader cover! :D

When I made one for my mum-in-law's kindle last year, I had two tries and the final product was still not as snug and fitting as I had hoped it would be. I was skeptical about the planned measurements I took this time for my kobo, but prayed that it would fit well and snug!

With the Kobo having a narrower left border, I planned for the left corner inserts to be smaller than the one on the right.

Accounting for the thickness of the Kobo, these were the eventual measurements

- size "required" for kobo: 6.5" x 7.25"

- Add 0.5" SA for all sides - pocket fabrics: 7.5" x 8.25" (2 pieces + 2 x interfacing)

- main fabrics: (7.5"x2)-1" x 8.25" = 14" x 8.25" (2 pieces + 1 fusible fleece)

- corner insert pieces (left): 3.5" square (2 pieces + 1 interfacing)

- corner insert pieces (right): 4" square (2 pieces + 1 interfacing)

After measurements,

  • sewing to make the corner insert pieces: fabric right sides together, and interfacing on the top

  • after turning right sides out and pressing, I top-stitched along the diagonal

I wanted the outer appearance to have both the solid and print fabric, so that I could still have negative space for my cricut vinyl designs, so I combined two pieces of fabric to make the "main fabric" measurement.

Unfortunately, I completely forgot about sewing in the elastic that I had wanted to attach for securing the front flap of the cover, and had to make the elastic as a separate! :(

Another thing I would have changed was to add stiffer interfacing for the main fabric pieces, as I had only used one layer of fusible fleece!

All in all, still very happy with what I had ended up with! :D :D
