Itchy fingers finding the perfect occasion for another quilt! :D

The third birthday of my colleague's son, who is in our preschool!

She said he likes colourful, and I went all out *laughs*

Maybe too much, that I did not consider negative space which I later discovered ): Also, I probably should not have included the stripey fabrics in the pile!

Really wanted for it to end up something like this, but oops! I did not have enough white fabric at home and because it was during the lockdown, stores were closed and I could not get any more supplies!

I tried using the strip piecing method, and the process and measurements were mostly trial and error. I ended up having two different widths for the "columns" ):

Added some "borders" on the sides!

Hehe time for trying some free-motion stitching! :D

It was really tough on my hands though, as I did not have the right gloves [ silly me did not know the gloves were to be anti-slip, and instead I ordered some random cut-resistant ones online :( ].

I later also researched about the difficulties I faced, and I found out I had faced the quilting enemies: gravity and friction!

The quilt sandwich by then weighed quite a bit, and it was tricky manoeuvring the material as I haven't got an extension table to allow the quilt sandwich to be level with the needle plate. I also did not know about the friction that would pose as an issue too!

Nevertheless, I got to try out some free-motion stitching lines and designs, and even stitched the boy's name! :D

The colours/design ended up nothing like what I had anticipated or planned for, but I was really glad and relieved that the boy's response to it was far more favourable than my own's! *laughs* Hopefully he will use it for years to come! XD
